Charizard has two Mega forms. Mega Charizard X is the physical attacker. It gains Dragon typing alongside Fire, and its Attack rises to 130 base. Tough ClawsTough ClawsabilityBoosts the power of contact moves by 1.3×. Most physical attacks make contact, so this is effectively a permanent damage buff for physical attackers.Click to read more → pushes every contact move up by 30%, making Dragon Claw and Flare Blitz hit significantly harder than the base numbers suggest.
Flare Blitz is its signature option: 120 base power, boosted by Tough Claws (×1.3) and STABSTABmechanicSame-Type Attack Bonus: a move deals ×1.5 damage when its type matches one of the user's types.Click to read more → (×1.5), but it causes recoil damage equal to one-third of what it deals. Mega Charizard X hits extremely hard but gets worn down by its own attacks.
Fire/Dragon typing
Gaining Dragon changes Charizard X’s defensive profile. The old Stealth Rock weakness (from Fire/Flying) is gone. Dragon adds resistances to Fire, Water, Grass, and Electric. But Fairy type — now Dragon’s biggest weakness — hits for 2×, and Ground (2×) remains threatening.
Counters
- Fairy-type Pokémon — Fairy is immune to Dragon moves entirely. All Dragon STAB bounces off.
- Ground-type moves — Ground hits both Fire and Dragon for 2×. Earthquake is the most common answer.
- Rocky Helmet — Flare Blitz makes contact repeatedly. A Rocky Helmet user deals 1/6 HP recoil back on top of Flare Blitz’s own recoil, quickly draining Charizard X’s HP.
