Kingambit

Kingambit

Popular pick
dark steel

What it does

Swords Dance doubles Kingambit's enormous Attack in one turn. Supreme Overlord stacks additional power for each fainted teammate. Its Steel/Dark typing gives it almost no poor defensive matchups in the current meta.

Why it's threatening

After a single Swords Dance, Kowtow Cleave or Iron Head KOs most Pokémon that aren't specifically Fighting or Fire type. Supreme Overlord means a late-game Kingambit gets stronger as your team weakens — it's harder to stop later in the game than at the start.

How to stop it

Fighting moves deal 4× — both Dark and Steel are weak to Fighting, making it the single hardest counter. Fire moves deal 2×. Lucario's Close Combat is the cleanest in-roster answer; bring a Fighting-type in immediately when Kingambit appears. Don't let it get a free Swords Dance turn.
