Gardevoir is a pure Special attacker with 165 base Special Attack. Altaria has a mixed profile with equal Attack and Special Attack. A spread Hyper Voice under Pixilate and STAB hits both opponents for (1.2 × 1.5 = 1.8×) effective power from a base Hyper Voice, spread across the whole opposing side. At 165 base Special Attack, this number is high enough that even Fairy-neutral targets take meaningful chip.

Why Hyper Voice specifically

Most spread moves have their power divided across multiple targets — they deal only 75% of their normal power when hitting two Pokémon simultaneously. Hyper Voice is a spread move that follows this rule. But the Sound-type property of Hyper Voice has an additional niche: Sound moves bypass Substitute.

Substitute is a move that lets a Pokémon create a blocking “doll” that absorbs hits until it breaks. Most spread moves get blocked by Substitutes. Hyper Voice goes through them. Any Substitute-based stall strategy on the opposing side is irrelevant against Mega Gardevoir.

Psychic/Fairy typing

Psychic/Fairy is a powerful combination of offensive and defensive properties. Fairy STAB from Pixilate handles Dragon, Fighting, and Dark. Psychic STAB handles Poison and Fighting (coverage overlap). The typing gives Gardevoir Dragon immunity (Fairy is immune to Dragon) and resistances to Fighting, Psychic, and Dark.

The weaknesses are Poison (2×), Steel (2×), and Ghost (2×). These are real — Amoonguss (SporeSporemoveA Grass-type move that inflicts sleep with 100% accuracy — the most reliable sleep move in the game.Click to read more → into Sludge Bomb), Gholdengo (immune to most support moves and hits Ghost), and Steel types with good coverage are the primary answers.

Role on teams

Mega Gardevoir appears on hyper offense teams that want a guaranteed spread damage option that can’t be blocked by Substitute, and on balance teams that want the Dragon immunity as defensive positioning support. It pairs well with physical attackers that appreciate Dragon-type and Dark-type answers being covered offensively.
