Why it’s strong
Mega Altaria’s most-used move is Hyper Voice, which is a spread Normal-type special move. Pixilate turns it into a Fairy-type spread move that hits both opposing Pokémon. Combined with STAB and Pixilate’s boost, a single Hyper Voice often KOs frail attackers and chunks bulky targets.
Pixilate also gives the holder coverage against Dragon, Fighting, and Dark — three common offensive types in Reg M-A.
Counterplay
- Steel-types resist Fairy. Steel/Ghost (Aegislash) or Steel/Flying (Skarmory) take very little.
- Poison-types resist Fairy too.
- Pixilate doesn’t apply to non-Normal moves, so opponents can’t “expect” a Fairy hit if Altaria uses something like Earthquake or Body Slam carriers.
