Tidy Up is a Normal-type status move that does three things in one turn:
- Removes all entry hazards (Stealth Rock, Spikes, Toxic Spikes, Sticky Web) from BOTH sides of the field.
- Removes all screens (Reflect, Light Screen, Aurora VeilAurora VeilmoveHalves both physical and special damage taken by allies for 5 turns. Can only be set while Snow weather is active.Click to read more →, Safeguard) from BOTH sides.
- Boosts the user’s Attack by 1 stage AND Speed by 1 stage — same boosts as Dragon DanceDragon DancemoveBoosts the user's Attack and Speed by one stage each. The defining setup move for physical sweepers — fast and strong after one turn.Click to read more →.
Why it’s strong on Maushold
Tidy Up gives Maushold the same +1/+1 boost as Dragon Dance, which puts it past most of the meta in Speed and 1.5× in Attack. The hazard/screen wipe is mostly a side effect — but in matchups where the opponent has set up Aurora Veil or Light Screen, Tidy Up neuters their defensive plan and boosts Maushold simultaneously.
After Tidy Up, Population BombPopulation BombmoveMaushold's signature move — hits 1 to 10 times at 20 base power per hit. With Wide Lens or after Tidy Up, it reliably hits the full 10 times for ~200 effective BP.Click to read more → becomes Maushold’s win condition. The accuracy boost from the Speed boost (and the Attack boost) make 10/10-hit Population Bombs much more consistent.
Doubles considerations
In doubles, Tidy Up’s screen removal hits BOTH sides — so if Maushold’s own team has Aurora Veil up, Tidy Up will erase it. Teams running Tidy Up Maushold either don’t pair it with screens or accept the trade-off.
The hazard removal is less relevant in doubles than singles (hazards see less play in doubles), but Sticky Web removal is occasionally useful.
Counterplay
- Phazing (Roar, Whirlwind) forces Maushold out before it can use the boosts.
- Haze resets all stat changes — wiping Maushold’s Tidy Up gains.
- EncoreEncoremoveForces the target to repeat their last move for 3 turns — devastating in doubles when it traps a Protect or harmless status move.Click to read more → locks Maushold into Tidy Up, forcing it to use the move again instead of attacking. (Sometimes a feature, but slows down the win condition.)
- Bulky Ghosts wall the post-setup Population Bomb threat completely.
