Champions exclusive: Mega Meowstic does not exist in mainline Pokémon games. This Mega was introduced in Pokémon Champions.
Trace is one of the most intellectually interesting abilities in the game. Mega Meowstic enters the field and immediately copies whichever opponent’s ability is most useful. Against a Rain team, it copies Swift SwimSwift SwimabilityAn ability that doubles the Pokémon's Speed stat while rain is active on the field.Click to read more → and doubles its own Speed. Against an IntimidateIntimidateabilityWhen this Pokémon enters the battlefield, the opposing Pokémon's Attack stat drops by one stage.Click to read more → user, it copies Intimidate and drops both opponents’ Attack. Against a Sun team, it might copy ChlorophyllChlorophyllabilityDoubles this Pokémon's Speed under harsh sunlight.Click to read more →.
This adaptability means Mega Meowstic’s value changes depending on the opponent’s team composition, and good players choose when to send it in based on what it will copy.
Psychic offensive role
Pure Psychic type with 115 base Special Attack makes Mega Meowstic a solid special attacker. Psyshock (uses target’s Defense), Shadow Ball (Ghost coverage, also bypasses Trace-copied abilities’ ghost-immunity), and Thunderbolt provide coverage.
Screens support
Meowstic is famous for Reflect and Light Screen (moves that halve physical or special damage for five turns). Mega Meowstic can set screens quickly thanks to decent Speed, and Trace may let it copy an ability that helps the setup process (like PranksterPranksterabilityAn ability that gives all Status moves +1 priority — they go before almost everything, even if the Pokémon is slow.Click to read more → priority).
What stops it
- Bug, Ghost, and Dark — All three are super-effective against Psychic. Gengar, IncineroarIncineroarpokemonThe most-used Pokémon in Reg M-A. Defines doubles tempo with Fake Out, Intimidate on every switch, and Parting Shot pivots.Click to read more →, and Volcarona (Bug) threaten it.
- Trace limits — Trace only copies from currently fielded Pokémon. If the opponent switches, Trace doesn’t automatically update (it only triggers on entry).
- Low physical bulk — At 78/75/75 stats, Mega Meowstic doesn’t take many physical hits.
