The Aerilate combo in practice

Moves like Return and Double-Edge have high base power even before Aerilate and STAB are factored in. A +1 Aerilate Return from Mega Pinsir hits harder than most dedicated physical attackers’ best moves. Quick Attack becomes a priority Flying-type attack — useful for finishing weakened targets before they can move.

Stats and role

Mega Pinsir’s Attack stat is exceptional (155 base) and its Speed (105) is fast enough to outpace most of the meta without speed control. It fills the role of a fast, hard-hitting physical attacker that can be brought in once redirection and speed control are in place.

Type coverage

Bug/Flying gives Pinsir super-effective coverage on Grass, Psychic, Dark, and Fighting types — many of which appear regularly across Reg M-A archetypes. The combination hits most defensive cores for at least neutral damage.

Weaknesses

Rock and Electric moves hit Bug/Flying for 2× damage. Ice is also a 2× weakness. Pinsir is not particularly bulky, so priority moves and faster scarfed Pokémon are the main answers. Keeping it safe until the moment it can attack safely is the core skill requirement.
