Unburden triggers the moment the Pokémon’s held item leaves its possession — either by being consumed (Berries, Focus Sash), knocked away (Knock Off), or used up. When it triggers, the Pokémon’s Speed stat doubles.
The boost is permanent for the rest of the battle as long as the Pokémon stays on the field. Switching out removes the boost.

The burst window
Unburden teams are all-in. The payoff is enormous speed for a limited window — until the Pokémon switches or faints. Every turn of that window, Sneasler is threatening. When the window closes, it’s gone. This creates urgency on both sides: the Unburden user wants to close games fast; the opponent wants to end the window by forcing a switch or KO.
