Quiver Dance is one of the strongest setup moves in the game. In a single turn, it raises three stats simultaneously:
- Special Attack +1 (~50% more damage)
- Special Defense +1 (~33% less special damage taken)
- Speed +1 (~50% faster)
Why it’s powerful
Most setup moves raise one stat. Quiver Dance raises three — so after a single dance, Volcarona is both hitting harder, taking less special damage, and outspeeding Pokémon it couldn’t before. After two dances, it sweeps entire teams.

In doubles
Like Swords DanceSwords DancemoveA Normal-type move that sharply raises Attack by two stages — doubling it in one turn.Click to read more →, Quiver Dance requires a “safe turn” to use — and in doubles, safe turns don’t happen naturally. The opponent has two Pokémon acting every turn, which means two attacks aimed at your setup sweeper while you spend a turn not attacking.
This is precisely why Volcarona teams are built the way they are. The support structure — Fake Out to flinch one opposing Pokémon, Follow MeFollow Memove+2 priority redirection. The user becomes the target of every single-target attack opposing Pokémon use this turn, protecting allies.Click to read more → or Rage Powder to redirect attacks away from Volcarona — exists entirely to manufacture the one free turn Quiver Dance needs. Singles players who try Volcarona in doubles without that support structure find that it dies before it ever gets to dance. The support isn’t optional; it’s the mechanism that makes the sweeper work at all.
